"A Photographic Adventure"
the photography of Eric Fargo

March 3 - March 30th 2014
Meet the Photographer March 14th from 6 - 8 PM

Exhibitions Art Gallery & Queen Street Gallery will host a fundraising exhibition for local photographer Eric Fargo. The exhibition titled "A Photographic Adventure” is a personal collection of Eric’s taken from around the world. Eric is best known for his photographs featured in the local magazine, “Around The Panhandle”.

Eric was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer and has been unable to work since October of 2013. We will be showing Eric’s work with the goal of selling every piece at the fundraiser and meet the artist night. His spirits are high and he and his family and friends are ready to fight. Come out, buy some art, show Eric your support and check out the Gallery spaces.

About Eric’s Cancer

Eric Fargo was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.  It's a cancer that’s generated in his bone marrow and has attacked his vertebrae.  In October Eric had two emergency surgeries to fuse and strengthen his spine in his Cervical and Thoracic region. The cancer isn't completely under control yet and has damaged his T-6 Vertebrae and caused a compression fracture. Eric is still in a back brace while the chemotherapy treatments work to kill the Myeloma cells.  His weekly chemotherapy treatments are going well and his strength is slowly coming back.   The chemotherapy treatments include a shot of Velcade and every 28 days he receives an infusion of Zometta. These are chemotherapy and steroid drugs, designed to strengthen bone.

The ultimate goal to get this cancer under control is to have a Stem Cell Transplant. This is a strenuous process where the Doctors will remove all stem cells from Eric’s bone marrow, freeze the stem cells and hit them with high doses of chemotherapy with hopes of killing as many Myeloma cells as possible. Then they will reintroduce the clean stem cells back into his system.

In Eric’s words

"I took up photography about 12 years ago as a hobby. Needless to say I fell in love with the search of the perfect photograph. I enjoyed it so much I decided to attempt to make a living at it. Five years ago a friend introduced me to someone who wanted to start a local magazine and he needed a photographer. It was a match made in heaven. I have been the photographer for Around The Panhandle Magazine since its inception and am very proud of all my work. While the magazine calls for typical shots of people, food and general photography, it doesn't satisfy the artiste in me. That's why I have brought to you, "A Photographic Adventure."

Along with photography, my other favorite activity is travel. I have been from the depths of the Costa Rican rain Forrest to the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Along the streets Paris to the war torn streets of Mostar Bosnia. My camera goes everywhere I go and I absolutely enjoy every click of the shutter. My particular eye is drawn to depth of field, that's just what I like, but everyone's eyes are different. What do you like in a photograph? My recent travels have led me to photographing people. I mainly try to capture emotion in a person’s body language or body expressions. I print what I think is cool and full of expression even though it may not scream it at you. I thoroughly enjoy the little nuances of everyday European life. Such as a simple street scene or a relaxing espresso on a corner cafe. I don't particularly stick to one style of photography because quite honestly that's boring to me. I see the art in almost everything, it just depends on whether I can capture it. You will see all types of photography from me and I only think that speaks to my ever expanding eye. Please enjoy my "Photographic Adventure". There's much, much more to come."   -

Just in time for Fall and winter Martinsburg Wv art galleries, Queen Street Gallery and Exhibitions Art Gallery receive a fun facelift and improve downtown.  I was honestly surprised that the Historical Committee of Martinsburg gave the owners of Queen Street  Gallery and the owners of the building their blessing on the colors.  I was at the same meeting as Greg Henry owner of the building at 213 N Queen Street and thought that there might be a little opposition to the chosen colors.  Surprisingly there was absolutely none from the committee members.

Tonight I received a call from a gentleman who was inquiring about the gallery and the show currently on display by Sean Kenny.  He was surprised that there was actually something of this nature in Martinsburg and he was glad to have somewhere to take his visiting family who are from a large city.  It made my night to see that the efforts were for naught.

Last night 6/15/13 was the meet the artist night for artist Susan Carney at Exhibitions.  The opening drew visitors from wide and far and we were very pleased with the great compliments on the artist's work as well as the decorated space.  We went all out for this first solo show by making the show just a tad more homey.  The name of Susan's show was the inspiration to make the space more of a "Library" than a gallery by adding collections of natural objects in every corner and bringing out the display cases for rocks, skulls, leaves, a variety of birds nests and bee hives.  Making the show more hands on for children as well as adults was the goals of this special interior decorating and we are pleased to be able to welcome groups of children and their care providers for lectures and show and tell sessions.

Groups interested in coming in for a tour of the show and a lecture from curator David Heatwole can call 304)283-1902 to make arrangements.
